You may not particularly care how your favorite wines cross the ocean, but in 1989 Mannie Berk founded Rare Wine Co and within 15 years was nationally recognized as a premier wine merchant. The Rare Wine Co. represents nearly three dozen of Europe’s most revered producers, including such iconic names as Giacomo Conterno, Pingus, Bartolo Mascarello, Alvaro Palacios, Jacques Selosse and Domaine Huet.

“Our goal is not to concentrate on a single country or region but to have a portfolio that represents “the best of the best,” with a strong emphasis on classic winemaking.”

Over the past quarter-century, they have been fierce advocates for wines and regions they believed were neglected in the world spotlight. Thanks in part to their work, wines ranging from Chablis and Cote Rotie to old Champagne and traditional Rioja enjoy far more prestige today than they did when the company was founded.

As you can imagine, tastings will look a little different than before. Please read below so you know what to expect.

– We will be temperature checking members upon their entry into the tasting room.

– Clients will be required to wear a mask anytime they are not seated. 

– We will be practicing social distancing. To do this, we are offering three-time slots and limiting each time slot to twelve people. Please RSVP for the time slot that works best for you.

2018 Huet Le Haut-Lieu Vouvray Demi-Sec  – Loire, France

Since its founding in 1928, Vouvray’s Domaine Huet has been the standard-bearer for great, age-worthy Chenin Blanc. And to this day, year after year, the estate produces some of the world’s most compelling white wines—and in a remarkable range.

2018 Perrone Barbera d’Asti Tasmorcan – Piedmont, Italy

By the late ’90s, Stefano Perrone was looking for new challenges. He recognized that the Asti zone possessed many old Barbera vineyards, and he purchased two of them, one forty years old and the other an amazing 70 years old. From both vineyards, Stefano produces Barbera that captures the ethereal freshness for which the Asti zone is noted.

2017 Montepeloso A Quo – Tuscany, Italy

From the beginning, Suvereto’s challenge to Bolgheri—as Tuscany’s premier source of Super Tuscans—has come from just two adjacent estates: Tua Rita and Montepeloso. Climatically warmer than interior Tuscany—and possessing a marked similarity to St. Emilion’s famed Côtes—this locale naturally limits yields and is capable of producing wines with great concentration and perfume.

2017 Dominio de Pingus Psi – Ribera del Douro, Spain

Having established Pingus as a new benchmark for greatness in Spanish wine, Peter Sisseck has embarked on a new quest: to produce a wine that captures the soul of Ribera del Duero. And he intends to do so by harnessing the passion of the region’s growers who have, for far too long, lacked the tools, capital and vision to make wine that is truly “theirs.” And thus Ψ PSI was born.

2015 Rostaing Puech Noble Rouge – Northern Rhone, France

The Rostaing estate dates to 1971 when René Rostaing– a Notary by trade – began tending a few plots of family vineyards.  In the late 1990s, René and his wife purchased a property in the Côteaux du Languedoc near Nîmes. The estate, originally named Puech Chaud, is now known as Puech Noble. Located on a small plateau, 150m higher than most of Châteauneuf, Puech Noble is significantly cooler and offers a fresher character in its wines.
