Walla Walla In-Person Tasting 6:00-6:45PM
Not all wine country is in California: Walla Walla has become a prime destination! When Walla Walla was established as an official American Viticultural Area (AVA) in 1984 there were just 60 acres planted to a random smattering of grape varieties. The region grew by leaps and bounds in the early 2000s and now is home to just over 100 wineries and 1,500 acres of vineyards. Oddly, although 69 percent of the AVA is in Washington, 31 percent is in Oregon, including some of the most famous vineyards but few wineries. It sits at latitude 46 degrees N, about midway between Bordeaux & Burgundy, and offers some of the best examples of Syrah in the United States.
Walla Walla may be most known for Syrah but it’s also a great climate for making refined, red-fruit loaded Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Because the growing season is so long in Walla Walla, these warm-climate grapes are able to reach optimal ripeness to produce balanced, high-quality wines.
Amavi Cellars signifies love (amor) and life (vita) through its wines, which are 100% estate, 100% certified sustainable, and 100% Walla Walla Valley. Winemaker Jean-Francois Pellet brings the Walla Walla Valley AVA to life with his hand-crafted, terroir driven wines. Made from the estates younger vines and utilizing more neutral oak, Amavi’s elegant wines are ready to drink upon release, but will also age gracefully in serious collector’s cellars.
Pepper Bridge Winery produces Bordeaux-style wines from its mature estate vineyards. Pellet, blends his unique viticultural and winemaking skills with science and art. Using traditional winemaking techniques, 100% French oak and 100% estate fruit from the Walla Walla Valley AVA, Pepper Bridge wines are collectibles that showcase complexity, structure and balance. Combining old world philosophy with modern innovation, the brand has become an industry leader in crafting ultra-premium wines.

“Quality, hospitality and sustainability are our underlying values. Our estate vineyards: Seven Hills, Pepper Bridge, Octave, Goff, Les Collines and Summit View, are farmed sustainably. We build up the soil’s health rather than deplete it and seek out earth-friendly alternatives to fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides. We are committed to not only preserving, but also improving the land for future generations. And we insist on having a good time while we’re doing it all!”
